I've very recently realised that downtown Erin Wasson wannabe haunt Need Supply carries candles by the New York cult fragrance brand Le Labo.

More pertinently, these handpoured candles are currently on sale - US$45.99 (down from US$60), and with the code 'EXTRA25' you'll receive a further 25% off (US$34.50 which is almost 40% of its RRP). This also more or less makes them half the price of what their usual pricing in Singapore.

There's no way my conscience would allow bulk buying to make up the US$250 needed to enjoy free shipping to these shores (though I am so tempted to, really), so the savings will be diminished by some shipping costs. Still a very good deal though.

Defenceless: Net-A-Porter Final Reductions

Oh how I wish I was a foot taller (and several pounds lighter) and endowed with the guts to don this gorgeous Thakoon column gown as a contemporary wedding choice. I imagine a Anna Vyalitsyna rocking it or this Theksen's Theory slip down the aisle one day. As I type this, Guy M squints dismissively at the dresses... clearly even with the mention of Anna V or the prospect of a £125 wedding gown fail to convince him.

After taking an eternity to hit final reductions, it seems like items are going in a flash. If only there wasn't a wedding to plan & renovations to save for, I would be all over this evergreen black Chloe (now £650.91 after 50% off). Especially since it does bear some resemblance to the unattainable LV.

After a month of extreme slaving at the office and (consequently) overindulging in the pantry cookie jar, I'm ready to face the world again!

Trust it to be shoes to coax me out of semi-hibernation - Rupert Sanderson, no less. Behold my office shoes for 2012/13! Classic pumps with a twist - a hidden 1cm platform - they're marked down to £255 (from £425) and if the indulgent feel like picking up 2 or more pairs, the kind folks will throw in an extra 20% off. YUM.

So it's down a matter of which other pair then:

Option 1: Joyce cream lace-ups which Sienna Miller has helpfully shown can be worn with a mini too.

Option 2: These beautiful grey (yes, GREY) mary-janes! If it weren't for the wedding I'd be getting these too and selfishly cashing in on the extra discount on my own.

Christmas is an odd time for me. I do rather intense amounts of shopping but can't post about my triumphs until the recipients actually open their gifts. Similarly, I also can't bear to blog about the items I passed on, lest my friends wish I'd opted for the runner-up. This frustrates me.

Equally unraveling is attempting (often unsuccessfully) to avoid buying anything for myself while Christmas gift shopping. Made worse in no small part by the plethora of incentives being offered as we enter the last stretch of yuletide cheer. Case in point: Homegrown label Raoul's delicious leather and silk tee in warm maroon/cognac combination at only US$114 (about S$145) after Shopbop's further 20% off their 50-70% off sale selections. The code 'EXTRA20' is valid until 11.59PM PT on Thursday 15 December.

I've been lusting after an decently affordable leather tee for seasons now which is its primary allure. Equally - I don't know about you - but the fact it squeaks past their US$100 minimum spend to qualify for free international shipping (read: one needn't chuck random bits & bops to bolster the cart's value) is adding to my conundrum.

Maybe there's time to pop over to Raoul's boutique to confirm sizing - who are having up to 40% off instore anyway - or I should just cave now & pray the sizing works? Such difficult decisions all before I even get into the office...

Cheap Thrill: MARNI for H&M

Chronicling the history of the H&M designer collaborations, the highs of the Comme des Garcons and Lanvin collections made up for the lacklustre Karl Lagerfeld and Madonna. Maybe it's because I'm hardly bronzed and Italian, but nothing from the recent Versace outing seemed to make me reach for my credit card.

All that is changed. MARNI for H&M might be my downfall. Dare I chance reputational risk by camping overnight for ten minutes of shopping heaven? I already want every single piece previewed (yes, including those striped tights!) *help*

Thought of the evening: Is it too early to apply for leave in March?

Cheap Thrill: Preen

ASOS must have heard my unabashed swooning over Nina Garcia and Marisa Tomei's Preen looks. Behold the high street equivalent, right on time for the Christmas party season! (yes, it's still November but it's been a long first half of week...)

Their variation is not a complete duplication - a good thing - but does enough with the sequined lattice on a sheer panel. I'm actually wildly impressed their design team didn't commercialize the front by making it less transparent. On the other hand, the tiny cap sleeves are a tad casual for the look but at £40 (that's about a thousand pounds in savings on the original) who am I to nitpick?

If you needed any other reason, ASOS is offering a midweek 20% discount on all regularly priced items with the code 'HOT20' until 8 am GMT Friday 25th November, 2011, up to a maximum spend of £500.

It's officially taken just under 8 months for Sarah Burton's team to unleash Pippa Middleton's "rear of the year"-creating bridesmaid look on Net-A-Porter. Sadly, all the subtle variations in texture have been edited away leaving behind a pretty but ultimately less than spectacular bridal offering from Alexander Mcqueen.

Also, does anyone actually believe they can don such a famous gown and look better than than original wearer? Perhaps few do since only the tiniest size has sold out as of 11pm (Singapore time) - many a gown has sold out faster on NAP's site.

Forgive the inactivity, I'm back from a week in ~~Bali~~ paradise!

After years of lusting after a Fiona Paxton necklace, I couldn't resist when The Outnet offered this gunmetal chainmail stunner at an astonishing 55% off.

These pretty much never go on sale at Quintessential (the local Paxton outpost) so as much I was hellbent on saving for the wedding I just had to get this. It proved to be the perfect travel accessory - transforming simple jersey dresses & tees into an outfit worthy of beach club sundown cocktails. The chainmail had a admirable weight - enough for the tubular mesh to drape properly rather than merely flop and collapse. This style is also far less bohemian than Paxton's previously de jour bead & chain pieces. Get the gunmetal or gold (below) while they're still available; the rest of Outnet's selection is decidedly less timeless.

Is it too early to start shopping for the gals' Christmas gifts? Each of them are such critical shoppers, I'm usually inclined to buy them something fun or handmade which they wouldn't usually get for themselves. Markus Lupfer's alphabet pins are all kinds of collegiate glam perfect - which has *ahem* nothing to do at all with Net-A-Porter styling them with the evergreen breton top, jeans and blazer combination.

If you're handy with a needle, you could try fashioning these with spare felt & sequins - which might well be the only option available to me since all my initials are already sold out!

Cheap Thrill: ASOS Further Reductions

If patience is a virtue, then call me a shopping 'virtuous-o'. It might appear a bit incredulous that I would plonk down cash for a Celine bag at full price, but stalk ASOS for their further reductions sale. Even Guy M caved at the 50% mark *cough... sale newbie.. cough*

Count the pennies I must since I can scarcely justify leather culottes in Singapore's beading climate on a normal day, let alone when I started off the evening browsing bridesmaid dress options. But at GBP35, this khaki pair could be an extreme bargain or a modest mistake - let you know in a week or so...

Rounding off my shopping bag was this navy/black Peter Pan collared top (GBP15), which is playful enough for the office Friday dress down, and the Prada-inspired midi dress which I'd been coveting for a while.

It is a rare moment when words fail someone whose livelihood is based entirely on the medium so I'll leave to the images to tell the tale. Suffice to say it was traditional, tasteful and I was reduced to tears despite my stoic efforts not to cause a scene.

Coupled with work being manic (we take the good with the bad), I've resolved not to continue browsing bridal blogs in silence. Instead, I'm asking everyone who's patiently enjoyed the retail madness over the last few years to come along for the ride as I try to put together a day me, Guy M & our families could look back on with a charmed smile instead of a whisked blur.

For the past year, I've functioned without a "proper" camera. Opting to snap at whim with my Sony Ericsson Xperia, it's been a tedious waiting game for Canon's S95 successor to launch *drop that price darn it* Considering I have a blog going (some of the time, anyway), Guy M is convinced I have my priorities thoroughly muddled.

Trust handmade leather accessories to be the tipping point for me - especially after spending a Spetember morning enthralled by Hermes' Festival des Metiers. It brought me back to happy days in William Street, Sydney, where I diligently cut patterns, pleated leather and harnessed the sewing machine in the name of local cordwainer pride.

Closer to home, the charm of cottage industry is precisely why the collaboration between Tiong Bahru babies Nana and Bird and the equally Singaporean J.Myers Company has all the natural earthiness you'd expect of bespoke merchandise. The decision to keep the camera strap (S$150) untreated shouts out to the most famous untreated leather handles, but also promises a sentimentality that could only come from naturally aging a strap through years of globetrotting. Cue: Garance ambitions.

Also catching my eye is the Conway cuff (S$85) - their less-adorned take on Balenciaga wrap bracelet, which may be a more practical badge of honour if you're as keen to support these local artisans as I am.

Sometimes fashion comes full circle. I've always felt Jil Sander's market bag was more or less an overpriced Baggu: vaguely luxurious when done in leather but ultimately a £~~606~~ £243 hole in one's wallet. Well, "the original" has one-upped the fashion house by creating a leather Baggu priced at a comparatively paltry US$120!

A virtual twin with none of the rip-off shame? Needless to say, I'm genuflecting at the shrine of Baggu with the trusty sacrificial credit card in hand. Available in black and apricot, and in Small (10"W, 16"H, 6.5"Drop) and Regular sizing (14"W, 24"H, 10"Drop - US$150).

It may be almost a whole year into the Arty ring craze but when a thoughtful galpal (and Yves Saint Laurent) gifts the Arty as a belated birthday present, who am I to refuse? I'm glad this addition to my YSL accessories collection isn't one of the oft-imitated coral or turquoise variations which have pretty much worked its way down to Forever21 level. Receiving this just before my Hong Kong trip reignited my shopping thirst - which isn't necessarily a bad thing because I feel like the world's most laxidasical shopping blogger. Go, Sure Buy: Uniqlo +J vs. Club21 Accessories

When it rains, it pours. New York and London may have their fashion night out, but over here it's just mulling over how to best spend an hour(ish) at lunchtime today. It's a fashion face-off between the final Uniqlo +J range and Club 21's cheeky prep-school named 'ACS' Accessories Clearance Sale.

Maybe it's queue fatigue - I refuse, on principle, to queue to get into H&M on a weekday (yes, there are still queues in the evening) - but I'm slightly loathe to attempt the Club 21 sale after braving their Bazaar not so long ago. Still though, the siren call of Marni accessories at 60-80% off beckons rather persuasively.

On the other hand, having planned my possible plan of attack, I have one key item I'm eyeing from the +J range - more black long sleeved tees which during Fall 2010 were so well cut that people constantly asked if I'd lost weight when I donned it. Permanent diet in a tee? I'm there!

Cheap Thrill: Topshop v Rupert Sanderson

While perusing Susie Bubble's curated picks from Topshop's Fall collection, I spied this budget buy referencing Rupert Sanderson's Pikon heels.

Let's be perfectly honest, there is just no comparison on account of looks. The Ruperts scream class in a Mad Men vintage style - there is no chance these would be dismissed as a thrift shop score. I do love my Rupert Sanderson pumps (call it my foot bias), so this is going straight onto the wish list!

That said, the Topshop is probably a little bit more practical - don't we all shudder slightly everytime we sprint/squeeze onto an underground train whilst in our "good shoes"? They're also probably better than the Ruperts when paired with slacks on account of their more masculine detailing.

All About Nina, All About Sleeves

In a sometimes sweltering city state, I'm frequently on the receiving end of "the raised eyebrow" when I opt for a long sleeve as my top of choice. The potential for perspiration be damned, I refuse to allow my less-than-toned upper arms to be my sartorial downfall.

Thankfully, I have Nina Garcia in my style corner this fortnight! She couldn't have dressed more appropriately for her starring role in a recent episode of Project Runway (Season 9). For anyone familiar with the series, we've had to endure the annual 'Design for Heidi' challenge (which has morphed over the years into 'Help Heidi Design for her Line') that inevitably meant bodycon & short. Designing a day/night outfit for Nina was a proper challenge: the Marie Claire's fashion director wanted nothing too voluminous, no loud patterns, no loud colours, no cowl necklines, not boring... basically she wanted what any working woman wants! Topping the episode off was Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles armed with droned barbs worthy of The Devil Wears Prada. But I digress...

The star piece of the episode wasn't anything from the contestants runway. Reverentially (grin), it was the Fall 2011 Preen blouse which Nina wore during her visit to the workroom (read: slaughterhouse). Technically this breaches Nina's loud colours requirement but it's a such clever way to wear bright orange to the office/cocktails, I'm willing to look past any potentially confusing signals she was sending to the contestants.

Snooze/Lose: Fashion's Night Out T-Shirt

Blast these efforts to be more circumspect with my shopping! I've deliberated on this printed long sleeved tee from this year's Fashion's Night Out collection for too long and all the small sizes are gone!

Frustratingly, Shopbop seems the only online retailer carrying this piece (US$45) which also means enough people have bought (and worked their way through) Vogue's September issue, which featured it as their choice budget buy for the month.

Maybe I could still get the 'Medium' and style it up as a t-shirt dress? Plead with friends to scour the stores in the USA for alternative sizes? More deliberation ensues... Cue: The cast of Glee doing David Bowie! All we need are the Olsen twins to guest in a Glee fashion episode and the fun frivolous fantasy would be complete.

Can't Cry Hard Enough

I finally caught Blue Valentine over the weekend. It's not a love story, and it was as heart-wrenching as everyone said it would be. I even bawled so much that I got a nose bleed. True story.

At least Guy M found my blood stained sobs adorable, rather than horrifying. But don't let that put you off watching one of the better (or at least one of the saddest) films to come out of Hollywood in a while.

Skip The Wait List: Moda Operandi x Vintage Hermes

I interrupt this regrettable lull in posts to alert anyone suicidally desperate to secure a Hermes Birkin or Kelly. Moda Operandi has 21 vintage Hermes bags at its latest trunk show - which means you could waltz past the wait list for that black Birkin and the local Hermes SA can withdraw the restraining order she has against you.

The piece that's got me chucking my credit card into the freezer and holding a chopper over my right hand is the vintage wine hued Rouge H Kelly (US$4,950). The price is - to me at least - still kind of insane but I like to imagine it once belonged to Victoria Beckham, and she's selling these bags to give back to poor or make space for baby Harper. Makes it vaguely more justifiable... I say that with an almost straight face.

It's finally HERE... Make way in your closet for the YSL Chyc Cabas Tote which is, to my mild annoyance, already being heralded as the latest bag de jour.

~~Walk~~ Run to your nearest YSL boutique for the black and bright blue versions (S$2560 - ouch). I must confess the black was a tad sombre, but I have high hopes for the the tobacco or dark brown versions which are due to arrive in stores from September.

In the current economic climate, I realise it's not a modest sum for a bag but this roomy tote - which is surprisingly lightweight when empty [Mulberry Roxanne, I am looking at you!] - will certainly find an evergreen place under your arm as the new, go-to carry everything bag, capable of toting small animals or office files in a single bound.

Ready for Resort: Rupert Sanderson

Still weaning myself off an intoxicating bag phase, it's been a rare pair of shoes to make to catch my breath. So to realise these bright, brash "Caribbean meets Kenya" mix of print, saturated hue and texture come from Mr. Minimalism Rupert Sanderson is a surprise - a very good one!

I usually find myself more drawn to his Fall/Winter work-appropriate styles - he does the most sublime pumps on the planet - but I absolutely cannot resist the Kibo open toe wedges (US$750).

Nissa platform wedges (US$850) - perilously high, no less desirable

Apart from deciding which to go for - the teal or the hot pink - I've just booked a holiday villa in Bali. If I hadn't already booked this untimely vacation, I'd probably get both colours and then celebrate by calling the girls over for some homemade mai tais. If one is not headed to a beach resort, one might as well create an occasion to wear these stunners. After all, glorious shoes deserve a celebration!

Alldressedup Sale: Could, Would, Should?

I knew there was some buried subconscious reason that a particular loose silk tee at alldressedup's sale jumped out at me. Navy, round neckline with 3/4 taupe sleeves - and 50% off and available in an equally pleasing chocolate/taupe combination.

Sure enough, when scrolling through La Garconne's new arrivals, the aesthetic dawns on me: 3.1 Phillip Lim. My retail spider sense has clearly been weakened through lack of use.

Alldressedup's version from their Spring/Summer 2011 line is actually more luxe - full silk rather than the knit vest/silk sleeve combination done at Lim. It's also only about S$179 after the discount which works out to be a third of the cost for a similar look. I'm now racking my brain (and retail conscience) whether to attempt asking the store holding the blouse - if it's even still available. Oh the pain, the pain!

Also available on sale are their black or brown skinny wraparound leather belts that are so classic and perfect for that "wraparound & knot" look - a steal at S$35.70 after 70% off. I have the brown and I love it to death so this might be a good time to score its sister.

Despite being slightly vertically challenged, I am completely enamoured with the delicate vintage feel of the ankle-length dress. Yes, it may seem dated to some - but surely an appropriately stellar pair of heels would updated the look immediately (ala Karla)? Also case in hand - fairly recent red carpet looks from Hailee Steinfeld and the petite (but perfect) Mila Kunis, and on two of my recent favourite formal/bridal looks.

Is this look only for the willowy slim and celebrity-styled? Or can mere mortels carry the look?

The defining Gossip Girl fashion trend has to be the ignition of the headband frenzy during Season 1 & 2, until it was summarily dismissed in Season 3 (the college season) and by Dan Humphrey no less. If the inactivity and silence puzzled you, allow me to reassure you that like Jason & the Argonauts, I've faced many a perilous obstacle this past week.

First, the apartment was deprived of the internet. Although this may seem trivial in the age of smartphones, my thumbs are too large to deal with navigating hyperlinks for more than a 1/2 hour on my Sony Xperia. More pertinently, navigating The Outnet's new arrivals is impossibly tedious on their mobile version (wail).

Secondly, I've been resting from some surgery. I'm not going into any gory details - suffice to say "I'm baaccck" and able to sit & type again! (cheer)

Sundays are meant for eggs benedict, lemonade and breaking out the Wayfarers for its weekly main street parade. It's a positively beautiful day outside - much to the chagrin of my work ethic.

Instead of wordsmithing and drafting, I want to slice citrus fruits and fashion my own Stella McCartney cake! Imagine the possibilities: Sliced banana on a chocolate cake in homage to Prada? Bitter chocolate buttons on a cream cheese frosting in a Marc Jacob for Louis Vuitton creation?

In the spirit of all things bright and beautiful, I've recently been drawn to Proenza Schouler's Keep All in the de jour mimosa colour. The SA assured me I could carry it beyond this Spring/Summer, but I was dubious. How many times had I stood in my room thinking "Oh I wish I had a yellow bag to go with this outfit"? Possibly never...

Bad enough my colleagues have glanced tentatively at my Chanel mimosa toes last dressed down Friday, I don't need another reason to make them question if I'm in the wrong office/profession. I guess this is one bag which I'll have to put on the "Maybe" list.

There really isn't any real excuse for my tardiness in posting *hangs head* I half expect "blog social services" to swoop in to investigate me for neglect... Forgive me?

At least the shopping urge is back! I've recently felt the compulsion to add a couple of dresses to my dress down Friday wardrobe. Too often it's been some variation or another of the breton with blazer look. Not that there's anything wrong with that (or with this linen blazer with raw exposed lining), but I feel like I'm stuck in a mild style rut.

Perhaps ASOS' Prada-style print dress could inject that jolt of adrenaline to my wardrobe. While being smart enough during the week with a cardigan, belt and kitten heels, its pricing (GBP50) is thankfully far more Peggy Olsen than Betty Draper.

Alternatively, this wriggle fabulous pencil skirt might likewise do the trick - though perhaps bordering (intentionally?) on that 80's sexy secretary vibe.

Or maybe I should save my cash for my work trip to Hong Kong at the end of the month? As always, life's full of tough retail decisions.

After limping through the door late last night, and instead of having an early night as possible, I found myself itching to renew my vows to the Celine Luggage Shopper Tote. The lacklustre Net-A-Porter (International) Sale has left a big scar on my retail horizon - so much so I found myself back at the USA sale site on several days scrolling for sizes and wondering where it all went wrong. I should have known better - nary a day before the International sale and suddenly half my prized wish list was sold out. Conspiracy? Or just shrewed shoppers purchasing, then returning the items (only to buy them again on sale)?

I'm hardly about to throw the baby out with the bathwater. While I'm now more enamored with its pale grey elegance than when it first caught my eye on Net-A-Porter, I'm decidedly not in love with its price tag. Even on sale, that kind of money can only be vaguely justifiable when spent on a Celine Classic Box, Chanel 2.55, a wedding gown or a 2 return tickets to New York on Singapore Airlines.

Speaking of things I lack the gumption (or occasion) to buy - Rupert Sanderson's Sale Preview has yielded these nude Figaro sandals - recently spied on annoyingly-chic-for-her-age Chloe Moritz. Swirls of soft calf leather would be divine and so perfect to complete the aforementioned Lanvin look. Dare I say it, they seem a better fit than Natalie Portman's matchy-matchy satin heels when she donned a similar gown. We all can dream, can't we?

At the risk of sounding completely insane, for a brief moment (okay, more like 22 minutes) I contemplated committing one of the singularly most heinous fashion crimes: Buying a wedding gown, when you needn't one.

There it was: Victoria Beckham bridal, on Net-A-Porter's USA site and 70% off. For the price of a Tanjong Pagar bridal salon rental, one could own a designer gown. What a dream!

Truly, this begged a more diabolical question: Had I morphed into *that* girl? The one who glances longingly at Louboutin's ruffled bridal collection when she really should be focussing on pumps? Or who briefly placed Rupert Sanderson's blush Figaro sandals into her shopping cart before opting for the rather more practical Quince wedges? My fashion soul is certainly in peril.

Time to award blame! For this dubious honour, I look to one of my oldest friends, H, who tied the knot on last Friday. Equally, a university acquaintance walked down the aisle on Sunday past. Rubbing salt to the wound (while cleaning out my wallet) is a colleague's wedding this coming Sunday evening. Can you see why I've got weddings on the mind? It can't be helped!

A Moment of Silence: Georgina Goodman in Administration

Just when you thought the worst of times was over. Independent shoe label, Georgina Goodman, announced last week that it was going into administration.

Her designs might have lacked in re-imagination of late, but surely there was still a niche for stripes, diamonte and lots of Love. I even recall joking about their somewhat inauspicious unit number when they first heralded the opening of their Old Bond Street boutique - "die die" in Cantonese - but this is all still coming as quite a shock. Her label was the first that planted the seed of hope all those years ago that it was possible for Singapore to have a store filled with independent shoe designers; each pair handmade. With love.

The administrators have already started a massive sale of all remaining stock - 40% off the last selling price. Far be it for me to dance on a grave but if you've always fancied a pair of Goodman's signature handmade brush-stroked nude leather heels (and you're in London), this could well be your last chance.

Seasons of Change: Celine Sale

In case you're wondering how to spend your lunchtime/evening, do not go to the Celine sale at Takashimaya S.C. I mean that genuinely and without any irony. Over the weekend, when I gently enquired if they'd be participating in the Great Singapore Sale, the SA informed me that clothing & selected accessories were 30-40% off, selected bags were 30% off.

As always, the devil is in the details: None of the Cabas bags (plain or bi-coloured) are on sale, neither are the leather wallets. When pressed, this was rationalised on the basis they were 'classic items' - which I personally felt was a dubious response. They were, admittedly, classic Celine shapes but the colourways were definitely (and mostly) seasonal. Neon yellow python? Peach with Taupe? Navy with Neon Yellow? I was miffed.

Perplexingly, this applied to their belts too - the same tune was sung and I was reminded that 'classic styles' apparently never go one sale, which was another dubious statement considering I picked up the identical style - a deep red "classic" belt - on a very decent 50% discount last year!

What a change of attitude... I guess Celine has finally hit IT-status in Singapore. And a sad day it is.

If I Were A Rich Girl: Net-A-Porter USA Sale!!

My worst fears have come to fruition. I'm trying to schedule a viewing for an apartment, but Net-A-Porter (USA) has begun their summer sale - and there are painfully good bargains abound... This is no time for weak shopping souls, and I'm absolutely fatigued from my long-term/short-term goal soliloquy. Glee's Fleetwood Mac episode playing on the telly provided the soundtrack to this drama.

This Bally Rachelle tote, which I've been eyeing in either the nude/brown or black/white, is now 50% off (US$697.50, approx S$906). The soft muted hues of the brown version stir my heart, but it's the classic monochromatic style which would add more to my office wardrobe. Having settled into the grind, I've come to appreciate how pulled together a boxy semi-structured tote looks when attending meetings - in fact, I'm regretting somewhat my Mulberry A4 Tote which seems the casual cousin in comparison.

On the International site, the Rachelle tote is currently about S$1390 at full price. In commercial terms, if this bag goes on 50% off on the main site, I'll be there waiting with my credit card!

Right now, I'm kinda in love with Thursday nights. It couples all the promise of the impending weekend with that exhilarating countdown feeling which will motivate me throughout the workday. Also, I get to do my best Simon Cowell impersonation with the latest episode of American Idol whilst toasting the only worknight when one could enjoy a glass of cab sauv without fear (Fridays don't count).

Poesy speaks with such passion and authority - I wouldn't be surprised if Emmanualle Alt calls her up for a guest editor stint at Vogue Paris. Blake Lively on the other hand just seems rather vapid and childlike - her guest editorial at US Vogue would probably entail doodles with lots of hearts and smiley faces.

Earlier this week, I sent my Swedish Hasbeens back to Net-A-Porter with a heavy heart. It was rather demoralizing to find I was a true 36 (and a half) for the 37 was too long and the 36 was too snug. Rather than settle for sliding / pinched feet, I chose the circumspect option and sent both pairs back. Thank goodness for free shipping or it'd have been a costly exercise.

In return, the shopping gods have rewarded me with 70% off this luscious suede pair of Rupert Sanderson platforms right off my wish list. I've had my eye on these for a while - not least because the SAs at his Bruton Place boutique basically had on the dynamic two of indulgent Rupert-buys. After much deliberation, I caved on the practical lower heel but continued to dream about (and stalk) its opulent multi-hued sister. A dream no more...

A Tale of Two Blondes: Blake Lively vs. Clemence Poesy

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of Chanel, it was the time of Resort, it was the epoch of belief that Clemence Poesy would be the campaign face, it was the epoch of incredulity that cleavage and hype triumphed subtle glamour, it was the season of Blonde, it was the season of dye, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of fake tans, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to dirty blonde, we were all going direct and away from the bleach bottle.

Let's be objective here: Clemence opts for a yellow tweed with ostrich feathers and completely sells me on the outfit (she bestest the runway model by miles). In comparison, Blake Lively's disappointingly brazen black sequined jacket and micro-"you can't be serious that's a skirt"-mini, which quite frankly makes the Kaiser's designs look like they were pulled from the floors of Forever21.

Coupled with my frustration at Blake's alter-ego's onscreen selfish desire to be ja adored of NYC (plus the world), I am *this* close to writing off Coco's legacy from my wish list. Bring back European chic for Chanel!

Remember this gorgeous but mysterious grey ostrich femme fatale? Wait no more, the Taylor Satchel has just been released for pre-order. Naturally, comparisons will be made to Mulberry's bestselling satchel, Alexa, but they are fairly irrelevant as this is a different creation entirely.

Drawing inspiration from Betty Draper's wardrobe, Emma Hill's team DeLaurens the vintage handbag to the future by imbuing the tradition shape with a modern sensibility through hardware panels and (once again) the de jour shoulder strap. Available in a mini, regular and oversized variation and in a mishmash of colours ranging from cabbage to deer brown, it's a tough call for my favourite in the range.

Rebecca Hall's classic-sized and spectacularly indulgent mole grey ostrich (£3750) bears the same socialite hallmarks as the Louis Vuitton Popincourt: a dinky top handle which is large enough for the essentials (including the sunshielding mini-brolly) but not roomy/deep enough to get your mobile lost in. The shoulder sling however lends some youth to the style, though on the classic size, it's seems somewhat misplaced as the triangulated base may add unnecessary bulk to your silhouette when slung.

Lest anyone begin to utter 'YSL Muse Two', the design team has wisely foregoes the obvious top flap in favour of a straightforward double-zip. Whether this will improve its durability or frustrate me when I attempt to store my laptop through its front facing zip will remain to be seen. For now, I can only gaze and add the black / matte grey.

Sometimes I miss the dark days when I couldn't even entertain the concept of retail therapy - ah those days of Lent and the poor exchange rates. Right now, with the USD at a low against the Singapore currency, I'm mulling over whether to purchase one of these American Apparel leather zip pouches and DIY-ing a Celine out of it, or going for the Large which I could easily scrunch fold into a smaller clutch (as above, in avocado).

Annoyingly, most of the colours for the Medium option are completely cleaned out - at least the taupe remains, which could be suitably "Celine-d". Colourways wait for no man, and neither does my temporary 15% discount which expires at the weekend. Sign-up for their updates to get a similar discount!

Oh temptation, you keep such perfect timing! After a brief fling with satchels, clutches and mini-purses, I'm back to lusting after big bags which can hold my entire life. Spotted on the arms of Sienna, Kylie and Leighton, this Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Chyc Cabas tote might be the anti-Birkin - roomy enough for work, but buttery enough for the weekend. Perhaps a more classic Balenciaga Weekender?

Can't wait for this to hit the shops with the Fall 2011 collection so I can eyeball it (and feel it up) for real. Till then, my monthly shopping budget is headed to the 'New Bag Fund'.

Club 21's May Madness is back from 29 April to 2 May for Club 21 cardmembers - but this time it's 10% off any 2 items, and 15% off for 3 or more items.

Unfortunately, a big fat sticker on the reverse of the pre-printed postcard clarifies that the promotion is not valid for Comme des Garcons Pocket, on CDG Play or Black products, or Balenciaga bags and small leather goods. Right - so that basically scrapped most of the shopping list which ran through my head when I first sighted the card.

I might still pop by Tsumori Chisato (cute little scarf, you are mine!) especially since the Inhabit Bazaar Sale is happening in town too - Alexander Wang and Phillip Lim at up to 90% off may be too good a bargain to pass on.

Apparently it's not very cool to be a royalist. So I'm going to blame my mum and grandma on having now joined the leagues of royal wedding loyalists who've caved on a humble tea towel to commemorate April 29th.

In my defence, it was from Emma Bridgewater and British-made which means I saved my relatives the agony of the enduring the appallingly ugly official tea towel whilst stimulating the British economy (well, at least Stoke-on-Trent's) at the same time.

Bridgewater's delightful range of handmade pottery is currently selectively marked down for their Street Party Sale (until 2 May) so you could conceivably purchase a Union Jack cooler bag or mug as part of the Britannia fever sweeping the world. Well, that's if you're unabashed enough to use them in public, of course...

Which is why my pick for choice Royal Wedding memorabilia is Rob Ryan's independently worthwhile hand-printed plate. Well-renowned for his papercut artwork, I'm prepared to look past the fact that this stunning design piece isn't a papercutting on account of its romantic, fairy tale of an inscription:

Net-A-Porter's "free shipping" siren call is echoing - even as I sit in the warm sunshine (and away from the shops). Frankly, it might be rude to resist when my off-white Cos silk blouse just booked a one-way ticket to the laundry bin in the sky after an inadvertent run-in with my vintage red capris. (Laundry fact: If it ran in the 80s, it'll run in the 00's...)

I really should be operating on a one-in, one-out basis but what's caught my eye are these substantially less corporate pieces: a denim dress from Maje and these nude clogs from Swedish Hasbeens. It may well be the holiday mentality speaking, but denim and clogs are made for each other, aren't they?

I'm of two minds about the clogs. Are they even a viable investment this late into the "trend"...? I leave the inverted commas intact since it's been a full year since the Celine clogs first strutted their way into everyone's consciousness. Is admitting to liking Gwyneth Paltrow socially acceptable yet? I certainly am firmly entrenched in "Camp Gwyneth" after her relaxed, kooky turns as the porn-named substitute teacher Holly Holiday in Glee and catching snips of her *gulp* eating and cooking in On The Road Again.
With the Lenten shopping ban over and my bank balance looking a little healthier for it, my eye has turned to Alexander Wang's Emile bag (in dove grey, of course). It's neutral without being stark, dressed-down without being casual and the choice of rose gold toned hardware just adds icing to the cake.

One primary mental barrier to reaching for the card is the Emile seems inspired by the YSL Downtown. To be fair, it's not a complete knockoff as much as an improvement since Wang's spin adds more structure and the option of a shoulder strap (de jour these days). In terms of versatility, this one speaks 'office' far more. Additionally, my perennial apprehensions about the Wang leather - not quite a supple as the other brands, and at times a bit coarse.
Guess this puts the Emily on the 'wait for a sale' list for me... how about you?

I've been putting my Lenten shopping ban to good use: trying on every single pair of red pants in the stores, and scouting for an alternative to Jil Sander's vivid acetate bag (read: the £77 designer plastic bag).

Perennially, not a lot of cuts work on my petite frame. Or the colour wasn't intense enough... even my old favourites Shopbop and Net-A-Porter proved unfruitful. Fortunately, independent label EmersonMade has stepped up to the plate with the perfect red pant - complete with styling inspiration on how to wear them post-Colour Block Brights season. Maybe it's symptoms of the month-long Gossip Girl hiatus kicking in... or perhaps Blake Lively's décolletage has finally developed its own gravitational pull, but I am (inexplicably) drawn to her bizarre polka-dot sarong/printed swimsuit with beach hair combination. Remember Project Runway's excruciating last-minute challenge to add to the designers' already complete Fashion Week collection? Or to create a complimentary look to their star piece? That was precisely what came to mind when I chanced upon this cheerful, daisy mini dress at BHLDN.

To say it seems cut from the same cloth as the polarising Valentino Resort 2011 gown braved by Michelle Williams at this year's Golden Globes (bless her!) would be an understatement. Someone put these two together, barefoot, in a bohemian forest wedding, please?

How to Party: Tsumori Chisato & Club 21b Launch

Either the universe is telling me I do shop too much or I just lucked out in being invited to Club 21's joint launch party last Friday for their Tsumori Chisato and Club 21b boutiques.

The evening honoured Chisato with a capsule 20-year retrospective on her career. It was a joyous rainbow of intricate knits, embroidered silks and clashing prints that delighted and worked the way only the Japanese could. I only wish they'd curated the exhibition with descriptions of the year/collection each piece was selected from so that visitors could appreciate the development of her design.

And so champagne flowed, the good looking preened, models strutted, Chisanto photo-called and I cooed and coveted an indulgent S$40 cotton hankerchief speckled with Chisato's trademark feline motifs. Large enough to use as a necklace/scarf (think Muji's Tokyo/Paris/London range of map hankies), it would have been an affordable and extremely chic memento for the evening! Too bad it was Lent or I'd definitely have put my 20% discount that night to good use...

Speaking of honouring the designer - I decided to debut one of my precious Tsumori Chisato x Petit Bateau tees, paired with Comme des Garcon long shorts (which The Man adorably calls my 'police constable shorts') and my appropriately feline patent Rupert Sanderson wedges. Would it be narcissistic to proclaim I love my outfit? But I so DO, and can't wait to wear the combination again... Maybe this Friday, would that be too soon? ;)

The Peter Pilotto Mismo printed tote taunted me and sat in my shopping cart for a whole 20-minutes before I logged off with my dignity (and soul) intact. Have you ever woken up on a dismal morning to the chatter of rain on the trees? When the morning sun, usually your day-timer, shies behind the grey sky? How about that accompanying instinct to don all that is black, cashmere and ostensibly anything with hardware as amour against the seemingly unending gloom? Welcome to my seasonal affective disordered wardrobe.

It just dawned on me how I'd managed to cobble together a collection of corporate office-appropriate pieces from the Comme des Garcon family (and alumni) over the last 5 years or so. Nothing too shady or too deconstructed. Just edgy enough for the office, without losing any credibility. Photos to come - I've decided black, white, dots and stripes are all I can manage for now... but in the meanwhile, forgive me as I crawl back into bed to recuperate from the day's madness in the office.

After the tragic fate that befell Balenciaga and the motorcycle bag, the writing was on the wall for Celine after their first appearance on local discount (read: installment plan) website Reebonz.

Is it just me that uses Reebonz as a barometer of when a brand/bag might have hit its saturation point in Singapore? Add to the fact their prices aren't really discounts; they're often still pricier or match the full retail price in Europe. I guess the appeal is the ever available installment plan, which contradicts the point of these beauties being aspirational luxury.

Nowadays, apparently Celine Shopper Totes sell out on their site over lunchtime and galpal J reports at least 4 in Raffles Place plus another handful in her office building. I haven't noticed a similar proliferation in my area but then I might be living in denial *wail*

My only consolation is the fortuitous availability of the limited edition envelope style. It may not have the same curves, but baby it's mine (just mine)!

Oh the great lengths I go in search of a bargain! Anyone who's lived in Singapore will know there is one place you do not venture to on a Sunday if you can help it: Lucky Plaza

Madding crowds notwithstanding, I found the time to stop by AS Optics which triumphed where nights of online searches failed. As an added incentive, the tortoise and plain black Tom Ford frames that retail at S$620 online could be The Man's (and mine to admire) for S$380. Yes, that's still a pretty penny but with the savings you'd score that bottle of whisky, monochromatic vintage dress and be on your way to that exceedingly authentic Single Man party!

Speed Shopping: TriBeCa's Bazaar Sale @ Forum

Racing out of the office toward a sale that promises the prospects of brands such as Matthew Williamson, Milly, Temperley, Notte by Marchesa and See by Chloe at up to 90% off is one of the joys of life. I got to TriBeCa's 'Blow Out' Bazaar Sale held at their boutique in Forum Shopping Mall just before closing time to find patient and pleasant SAs still unpacking boxes of goodies as a handful of shoppers perused the rails. Maybe I had been hardened by the elbowing and foot-tapping waits involved in entering other sales, this really surprised me.

The sale isn't for everyone. If you were hoping for a plethora of Elizabeth & James at the price of H&M, you might be disappointed. However, if you have aspirations for a S$300 after a 90% discount (under GBP 150) silk Matthew Williamson maxidress or a S$70 Diane von Furstenberg sundress (again 90% off), this would be your moment.

The SAs promised more clothing (and shoes) today and tomorrow, so there' still time to grab a bargain in time for the weekend!
