Men in Suits: 28.02.2010

I would have prefixed this post by admitting it is a rubbish, lazy post, but then there really isn't anything rubbish or lazy about Joseph Gordan Lewitt AND Matthew Gray Gubbler. In Suits. Together. In all their triple-barreled named glory.

Promise to talk more shop in the week to come. Have a great weekend! xxx

Spotted: The Original Alexa?

Either this black mini-satchel is the stone-age prototype of Mulberry's nouveau-classic Alexa bag, or it might actually have been the original.  After all, Kate's been known to loan her collection of vintage to inspire Topshop's design team, so it surely isn't *too* far-fetched to imagine this was the satchel that launched a waiting list not seen since the likes of the Roxanne?
I'm also somewhat intrigued by Chung's sartorial decision to tote her eponymous bag to the media-infested Phillip Lim's FW2010 show and pre-BAFTA party (below), but swing the vintage model whilst "slumming it" at the Topshop Unique and House of Holland shows.
A shrewd marketing decision?  Perhaps.  But I'm taking this as a sign to permanently forego the Mulberry Alexa in favour of an authentically Alexa Chung vintage find... Off to Ebay I go!!  (pc: tfs)

Return on Investment: Givenchy Heels

R.O.I  =  ('Much shoe envy from public at large'  Less  'Not a modest 70%+20% off')

'Slight, but bearable, ankle chaffing'
The realisation that my glorious Givenchy score from the Club21's Bazaar Sale still bests The Outnet's 40% off pricing brought a warm glow to my recently-retail-deprived heart - which almost made up for this whole Lenten ban business...

The Universe Is Having a Laugh

"In the magical universe there are no coincidences and there are no accidents. Nothing happens unless someone wills it to happen." - William S. Burroughs
I'm back from my Chinese New Year sojourn in Malaysia and knee-deep in my Lenten shopping ban! Plus the best bargains in the Outnet's weekend 'party dress' shop-in are already gone (boo).

But that's far from the coincidence that came to mind. Just yesterday, cousin C jetsetted off for her long awaited annual holiday whilst wistfully bemoaned the end of same, as it would mean severe post-holiday retail restraint. The only possible exception? An Anthracite Balenciaga City bag, which usually gets snapped up as quickly as a $1 beer in a sports bar.

Cue: HGbag's latest email update and the Universe having a laugh.

I feel like I should bring this serendipitous listing to her attention, but I wouldn't want to send her on a retail rampage if it were to be sold by the time she clicks the link. Decisions, decisions.

A Moment of Silence: Alexander McQueen

Another reason for Lenten restraint: Mourning the loss of Alexander McQueen and my resultant posthumous purchase of one of his skull scarves from the local Club21.

The rack of clothing was quickly being picked clean. My SA shared how they had just got a fresh shipment in yesterday and by teatime today, they'd to re-organise the racks several times as jackets, scarves, bags and shoes were all down to the dreaded last piece. Next door at Blackjack, the McQ range faired ever so slightly better with a selection of scarves and tops still available. If you're looking for a piece of fashion history, forget trawling the internet and get yourself down to Club 21 Collectibles at Forum - they have various McQueen heels going for under S$200! None in my size or which would've caught my eye save for today's tragic news.

I'm endeavoring to wear my skull scarf everyday this week - that is, save for CNY day 1 &2 as I doubt gran will appreciate the gesture. RIP Lee.

Balenciaga: Is the Coast Clear?

Did you survive Reebonz's Balenciaga 12noon pop-up sale last week?  The 40% discount was particularly alluring, but I resisted and then proceeded to give my Poupre City a little stroke (or two) at 12.15pm when everything had sold out.
Now all I need to do it exorcise dreams of a GSH Pom or a GGH City/Work; the latter in black so, really, I'm beyond unfulfilled dreams and in the realm of questing The Holy Grail. Thank goodness Lent is round the corner to assist. Resist! Resist. Resist?

My Favourite Reality Pair

Taylor & Brad sitting in a tree, (air) k-i-s-s-i-n-g!  These two need their own show, seriously, and preferably with Tim Gunn thrown in for good measure.  I'm just relieved Taylor hasn't slipped off the pop culture / fashion radar after she left the show.

Brought to you by the good people at Paper magazine - doesn't the Brad & Taylor Show already sound better than just Rachel Zoe?

Taylor  styled by Brad

(LOVE the ankle scarves!  If those are sticky tape strapped shoes, I might die from lust...)

Brad styled really bad-ass by Taylor (Studded Louboutin alert!!!)

There Are No Words: Marc Jacobs

The iconic Spring/Summer 2009 collection from Marc Jacobs (function: noun, pronunciation: \ˈgäd also ˈgȯd\has been curated and put on heavy discount at The Outnet.  This is impossibly bad timing since I've recently resolved to save for a downpayment for an apartment.  Such are the dilemmas of life:  I could be settled, old and frumpy or homeless, exuberant and indestructibly fabulous in this right-off-the-runway look!   For budgetary reasons, I might content myself with the probably more versatile sash belt from the same collection.  Now excuse me while I pace around my current abode in indecision. *fret*
