Score!!

Who would've thought it'd take a CNY trip back to Malacca, Malaysia, to score a perfect budget-friendly (not trashy) neon piece? I'd been looking for a frugal way to buy into this potentially short-lived trend.

These neon yellow sandals by Vincci (a Malaysian shoe company) set me back a paltry RM39 (about S$16/US$11)!

I've decided these babies (and their lovely paint flecked cork soles) needed to be debuted this weekend - which is just as well 'cos with the weather lately being all weird and suddenly overcast, I've resolved to leave my grey leather Rupert Sanderson sandals at home!! (That said, the Ruperts are the most comfy pair of sandals I've worn in my life... Birkenstocks have nothing on them!)

Channeling Mary-Kate in a silk maxi dress from French Connection, Vice&Vanity necklace, said newly acquired sandals. Massive sunnies not pictured :)

If you happen to feel like splashing out on DESIGNER neon sandals, Manolo and D&G have ones here and here going for US$595 and US$119, respectively.

Blast from the Past

Vintage/retro = Love!

The Fashion Nation girls picked up on little cassette trinklets made from shrinky dinks... but if you're inclined for something more fashion-fun, BrokenFingersArt has a selection of shrinky dinks accessories :)

I am absolutely in love with the necklace - which is like a crazy mad funky version of my yellow/black Vice&Vanity.

The Sincerest Form of Flattery?

You all remember the recent row between Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana over allegedly copied quilted trousers? I personally found the big debate nugatory since quilted trousers aren't exactly my cup of tea.

THIS however takes it to a new level... I know the "copy" is by Marc Jacobs but still?!?!

An ugly sweater is an ugly sweater, no matter what the label says.

Smile & Wave

The current economic conditions seem to signal the demise of couture fashion - which begins as the stuff of dreams made real through hours of skilled labour in small ateliers, and then percolates down (often rather inevitably following any award show appearance) to the high street corner.

Where else could a designer singularly devote an entire collection (and fashion show) to writing paper - complete with hair ornaments made (naturally) from crisp white paper?

Chanel
I admire Karl Lagerfeld's steely comment to a journalist during the recent couture week in Paris. When asked if the economy was having an effect on the spring couture season, he replied “Only on the conversation.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the vanishing world of couture this Friday:

Just Pink & Lovely

This is not related to shopping but doesn't this picture just make you feel all warm and fuzzy?

I adore macaroons and these are just so pink perfect for Valentine's Day if anyone feels like doing some indulgence baking. I'd suggest making these for your guy but most fellas just don't seem to appreciate these petit french darlings.

Full recipe here.

Errm

Back when I was in college, most high street shoes were still made in Spain and Camper was all the rage - in fact, their Twins range was pretty much the Holy Grail.

I guess there's still some charm about having a seemingly identical pair, but this attempt by Charlotte Olympia left me a bit perplexed... no wonder it's on sale!

DIY Jason Wu

Images: TeenVogue

Now that Jason Wu has scored the biggest fashion career coup in recent history, his designs will surely be flying off shelves. If you're strapped for cash, why not take some advice from Wu and make your own!

This oldie but goodie Teen Vogue article is still my favourite of their D.I.Y. series. Or how about making your own on-trend one-shoulder tee (here)?
I feel a CNY long-weekend project coming on... just gotta remember not to do any of the cutting & sewing on New Year's Day itself :)

T.G.I.F.

I'm a pretty bag loyal person - primarily due to my laziness in swapping around my usually massive bags (I'm just not a small bag person). As such, I've only got 6-7 bags in rotation... as compared to my innumerable pairs of shoes :P

Right now I'm trying to moderate use of my rose and brown Roxannes as the latter (pet-named 'Betsy' by galpal B for its resemblance to a calf) is starting to look a little worn.

This is a bit of a nothing post but I just HAVE to publicly declare my immense fondness of this recent Foley + Corinna purchase (which has not left my side for over a week) :

Lapis jersey dress from Country Road, Alldressedup necklace,
Midnight patent Foley + Corinna City Tote and Peeptoe Booties from FINSK

TGIF everyone... the loooong CNY weekend awaits :)

All in the Packaging

When I learnt that OAK (NYC) was offering a staggering 60% off for its sale, I clicked in immediately for potentially affordable Rick Owens!

While the Rick Owens jacket I was eyeing was completely sold out, there are some other great pieces still available:

Anne Valerie Hash dress (here)

What's great about OAK is how impressively styled all their images are - for each piece, models are photographed in mini ad-campaigns - complete with front, side and rear views! Seriously, the styling makes even a plain white tee look insanely desirable.

Superficial as I am, I momentarily wanted *everything* in the sale section...

As an informative comparison, let's check out similar pieces on different sites:

Example #2:
Grey Ant slip dress at
OAK and Revolve Clothing

Example #3 :
Alexander Wang thermal jumpsuit at OAK and Shopbop

Example #4 : United Bamboo dress with bow at OAK, and a blouse with bow on Tobi

Makes you *almost* prepared to pay that extra dollar to the person who made the most effort in styling, doesn't it? :)

Swearing In Style

Cheers to WWD for assembling a collection of images from past inaugurations - my fave is this great of Jackie Kennedy. I also love the Reagons dancing - which resembles US Magazine's snap of the Obamas (earlier post) as a result of their respective style choices for the evening.
