Covet Covet: Carey with Alexander Wang

I would never have pegged English ingenue Carey Mulligan as an Alexander Wang girl, but here she is in East Village NYC with the burlap Large Emile Tote slung over her vintage print frock.  At once her casual air makes me re-evaluate my initial inclination toward the full-leather grey version.  Mulligan herself is hardly Kylie or Rachel B petite, so perhaps that that variation only works on the extremely statuesque.

The Small Emile Tote is now on sale - 30% off at Shopbop. Still tempted...

Bad Timing: Alexander Wang's Small Emile

{thefashionspot}
Dear Shopbop,

Please explain why you chose to stock Alexander Wang's Small Emile in dove grey *after* having your Friends & Family discount.  This no doubt means you do not intend to put this covetable bag on sale anytime soon?

I add items to my Net-A-Porter shopping cart in spite. *boo*

Update: Isn't the burlap/black version (with a lower price point) equally tempting?

Today I Eat, Tomorrow I Shop: Weekend Sales

Club 21's May Madness is back from 29 April to 2 May for Club 21 cardmembers - but this time it's 10% off any 2 items, and 15% off for 3 or more items.

Unfortunately, a big fat sticker on the reverse of the pre-printed postcard clarifies that the promotion is not valid for Comme des Garcons Pocket, on CDG Play or Black products, or Balenciaga bags and small leather goods. Right - so that basically scrapped most of the shopping list which ran through my head when I first sighted the card.

I might still pop by Tsumori Chisato (cute little scarf, you are mine!) especially since the Inhabit Bazaar Sale is happening in town too - Alexander Wang and Phillip Lim at up to 90% off may be too good a bargain to pass on.

And to top it off, The Link is offering 30-50% off selected items at Bagbar, The Paragon. I scored a gorgeous leather cuff there during their last clearance sale, so I'm hoping the trip into town will be fruitful.

Dirty Little Secret: Gwyneth Paltrow

Is admitting to liking Gwyneth Paltrow socially acceptable yet?  I certainly am firmly entrenched in "Camp Gwyneth" after her relaxed, kooky turns as the porn-named substitute teacher Holly Holiday in Glee and catching snips of her *gulp* eating and cooking in On The Road Again
With the Lenten shopping ban over and my bank balance looking a little healthier for it, my eye has turned to Alexander Wang's Emile bag (in dove grey, of course).  It's neutral without being stark, dressed-down without being casual and the choice of rose gold toned hardware just adds icing to the cake.
One primary mental barrier to reaching for the card is the Emile seems inspired by the YSL Downtown.  To be fair, it's not a complete knockoff as much as an improvement since Wang's spin adds more structure and the option of a shoulder strap (de jour these days).  In terms of versatility, this one speaks 'office' far more.  Additionally, my perennial apprehensions about the Wang leather - not quite a supple as the other brands, and at times a bit coarse.
Guess this puts the Emily on the 'wait for a sale' list for me... how about you?

Impulse Buy? Alexander Wang's Daria bag

Hello!! Am back from my annual trip back to Malaysia and am right on time for The Outnet's Tuesday update! Top of the list is Alexander Wang's Daria bag which I've been of two minds about.  It's less classic and more casual than M's favourite LV - but at 50% off (now £327.66), it's a tempting alternative, no?

I've always had an issue with the feel of the leather used by Wang for the Rocco bag - it felt too rugged and (gasp) even a little cheap. But the Daria doesn't seem to be plagued by the same symptoms.  I must be getting more circumspect in my purchases if I'm deliberating a full leather, all-purpose, black bag... Fastest fingers first?

Here Comes Christmas

Alexander Wang at up to 60% off... doesn't that make you tingly and feel like Christmas is near? To celebrate the launch of The Outnet's mobile version, I reckon this Alexander Wang selection (with even the Rocco bag will be available at the sale) will more than make up for the somewhat middling offerings in their weekly stock updates. Who's already planning to wait by their laptops at Thursday morning GMT? :)

Update (10am GMT): The black and nude Rocco bags are sold out already. Well there were 50% off... dresses and shoes still available!

Say Yes: Alexander Wang On Sale!

I just about post on sales for Alexander Wang clothing more than any other brand, which says alot for a self-confessed shoe addict.  When Shopbop offered an EXTRA20 on their 50% and 70% off items for 2 days, who was I to refuse an Alexander Wang? Especially when this promised a main-line Wang in the price region of his T dresses!

If you're more into the Ts, Wang's retail website is offering 50% off some of the styles.  Last I checked, the elusive XS was available in several styles!

I refuse to feel guilty about this late in 2009 purchase - am most certainly debuting it for the anniversary date with the bf next week.  Promise to be good next year :)

Wardrobe Lust: Taylor Jacobson

It may be called The Rachel Zoe Project, but the wardrobe I'm coveting belongs to Taylor Jacobson - Rachel's long suffering, often grumpy, Wayfarer-sporting Styling Associate.  I love that her looks are hard, but never forced.

Beneath that bile spewing veneer (remember: "I'd rather slit my wrists than attend the Oscars"), she's actually rather pretty and has some kind of rockin' body!  Of course, ready access to rails of Balenciaga, Givenchy, Chanel and Alexander Wang doesn't hurt one's style.  Catch Season 2 on Youtube now!

Deal Alert: 35% OFF with LUCKY magazine

Anyone fancy 35% OFF a coveted pre-ordered Alexander Wang Fall09 bag?

This is not a dream! The shopaholic people at Lucky magazine have tied up with West Village boutique Mick Margo to give away 35% off anything on their webstore until 1 September! Just type in 'LUCKYBREAKS7" at checkout to reap the rewards. While they don't carry *that* studded Alexander Wang bag, they do have a range of less trendy but no less fabulous pieces, including lots of Wang apparel which were at 75% off before the further discount.

I'd cave on the tech Alexander Wang skirt but I'm trying to resist having to pay a hefty US$50 to get it to Singapore when the skirt itself is US$56.80 after all the discount. Anyone want to combine shipping? :)

T by Alexander Wang: Acquisition?

I'm still glowing from the gifted T by Alexander Wang boatneck dress from my birthday. Having worn it a couple of times now, I admit to being officially bitten by the Alexander Wang bug and plotting my next one - well technically, it'll be my first piece so I'd only have spent half the money :)

Am considering the basic tank with the racerback, or one of these lovelies from his upcoming Fall09 collection:

Thrown (Not Fallen) Off the Cart

I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise to all my bag-obsessed gal pals (and their husbands) for pushing them deeper into debt...

BAG ALERT: Alexander Wang's coco duffle aka "That Mary-Kate Studded Bag" is now available limited pre-order at US$895 (here).

I'm completely in love with studs right now so even I'm tempted. Enjoy :)

All in the Packaging

When I learnt that OAK (NYC) was offering a staggering 60% off for its sale, I clicked in immediately for potentially affordable Rick Owens!

While the Rick Owens jacket I was eyeing was completely sold out, there are some other great pieces still available:

Anne Valerie Hash dress (here)

What's great about OAK is how impressively styled all their images are - for each piece, models are photographed in mini ad-campaigns - complete with front, side and rear views! Seriously, the styling makes even a plain white tee look insanely desirable.

Superficial as I am, I momentarily wanted *everything* in the sale section...

As an informative comparison, let's check out similar pieces on different sites:

Example #1: Grey Ant Drawstring Shirt Dress

OAK (here)

Revolve Clothing (here)

Example #2:
Grey Ant slip dress at
OAK and Revolve Clothing

Example #3 :
Alexander Wang thermal jumpsuit at OAK and Shopbop

Example #4 : United Bamboo dress with bow at OAK, and a blouse with bow on Tobi

Makes you *almost* prepared to pay that extra dollar to the person who made the most effort in styling, doesn't it? :)
