Clemence vs Blake #2
Watch this video and then try to dissipate my resolve that Clemence Poesy would have been a superior brand ambassador for Chanel. Poesy speaks with such passion and authority - I wouldn't be surprised if Emmanualle Alt calls her up for a guest editor stint at Vogue Paris. Blake Lively on the other hand just seems rather vapid and childlike - her guest editorial at US Vogue would probably entail doodles with lots of hearts and smiley faces.

A Tale of Two Blondes: Blake Lively vs. Clemence Poesy
![]() |
{tfs} |
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of Chanel, it was the time of Resort, it was the epoch of belief that Clemence Poesy would be the campaign face, it was the epoch of incredulity that cleavage and hype triumphed subtle glamour, it was the season of Blonde, it was the season of dye, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of fake tans, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to dirty blonde, we were all going direct and away from the bleach bottle.
Let's be objective here: Clemence opts for a yellow tweed with ostrich feathers and completely sells me on the outfit (she bestest the runway model by miles). In comparison, Blake Lively's disappointingly brazen black sequined jacket and micro-"you can't be serious that's a skirt"-mini, which quite frankly makes the Kaiser's designs look like they were pulled from the floors of Forever21.
Coupled with my frustration at Blake's alter-ego's onscreen selfish desire to be ja adored of NYC (plus the world), I am *this* close to writing off Coco's legacy from my wish list. Bring back European chic for Chanel!

Mad about Maje

Being styled like Clemence Poesy has just become a little easier - if you're in a country with Maje anyway :) Brainchild of Judith Milgrom, this label has its humble roots in the Saint Germain area of Paris and is an effortless way to achieve a look that cosmopolitan, modern French chic. Although Net-A-Porter has signed the label on and Harrods has a concession, the London mecca is their King's Road boutique. I must have spent an hour trying on various pieces there...

This season, loads of pieces have leather detailing which, by the way, I am OBSESSED with right now. Although justifying the practicality of select pieces home in Singapore frustratingly eludes me (camel leather dress, I'm looking at you!), I've opted for a practical, snug fit wool blazer with leather trim on the pockets. The leather adds some edge to the corporate dress code, don't you think? All the better with Harrod's 10% off weekend that just passed. I've already earmarked even more pieces to check out this weekend when me and Ez hit Paris... now just to earmark the funds too :)

In My Dreams

If only we had all looked quite so cool stumbling out of bed and heading to classes. Clemence Poesy has set a new standard for 'effortless chic'. Can you imagine what a stunner she'd be even whilst clocking 18-hours days at the office? Life is so unfair.

Actress Off Duty

I might have developed an mild fascination with observing several actress' off-duty looks. The less they look like they've been touched with a stylist's hand, the more I'm intrigued with what clothing or bag they'll turn up in. It's not necessarily about "following" their style - it's more of a healthy dose of self-confidence when you realise you're dressed like Rachel Bilson :)

Then again, there are moments of true actress-envy: witness Clemence's single-handed ability to entice me back into Balenciaga motorcycle bags. If there was a Facebook group endorsing slinging your City strap over the shoulder - hereinafter 'Clemence-style'- instead of having the handle hooked on your inner arm, sign me up!

A Gossip Girl in Paris (part deux)

I'm feeling somewhat ambivalent about Blake Lively making yet another issue of Vogue (that girl has some PR team working for her) but let's celebrate Blair's return to sartorial form on Gossip Girl, shall we? Too long as she been swathed in granny hats and coats! The blue floral ensemble (below) is season 1 Blair - i.e. the bygone days before Eric Damon starting pimping Lively as the showhorse.
I'm equally thrilled with the addition of the real IT-girl Clemence Poesy *swooning at her understated style*

Le Plus Cher: Clemence Poesy

I've gone a little off Alexa Chung lately - seeing the bag everywhere hasn't helped quell the whiffs of overexposure in the air. In a quest to seek style inspiration of the subtler kind, I've found myself taking hints from French ingenue, Clemence Poesy. Radiant, chic, effortless but never boring - I'm already daydreaming about growing out my fringe to achieve that gorgeous "windswept in the Tuileries" effect.
