The Two Alexas

Witness the extremities that follow IT-girl status! First, the heinous HEINOUS Mulberry Alexa knockoffs at Far East Plaza (yes, they were so gross an injustice, it had to said twice). Then, this random streetsnap of Alexa Chung looking her divine, casual-cool best in my favourite Kate Moss x Topshop piece.

Guess I'll be pulling my pansy dress out of hiatus this weekend whilst pondering a swearing off the actual Alexa - well, at least until the sweatshops move onto the next IT-bag...

Flash Sideways: Kate Moss for Longchamp

At first I was pleasantly surprised when chancing upon the Kate Moss for Longchamp range being discounted by 30% (with an extra 10% until Sunday if you're a Takashimaya member). That's S$2179 down to S$1525 for her Gloucester bag. Granted the collection was pretty basis but it seemed a decent discount on its own.

But the prices are hardly enticing if you realise the same bag has retailed for less from the moment it launched February 2010: US$990 (S$1392). Way to realign markups...

Then, Now, Forever : Kate Moss

I lurve a little vintage Kate.  She may be on loads of covers this September but I'm not anywhere near KM overload.
And how lustworthy is the latest Kate Moss for Topshop collection?  My credit card is already trembling for some action - pantless & in sequins, of course ;)

Flashback: David Bowie & Kate Moss blow up

Rewatched Labryrinth. Absolutely counting down to Where The Wild Things Are, which I'm sure will be equally magical and ireverrent. Feeling all nostalgic and digging Bowie again, especially in this Q's Michelangelo Antonioni inspired editorial from Oct03 featuring who else but Ms Moss:

Mark Your Diaries: More Kate Moss for Topshop

So she's writing memoirs and converting to Buddhism, but what's on the forefront of my mind is the High Summer collection from Kate Moss' Topshop line.  The latest offerings land in stores Thursday 21 May

Given how key pieces previously sold out within the day, it'll almost certainly be a case of fastest fingers for this sequined gown featured in June's British Vogue!

Model vs. Actress: Costume Institute Gala 2009

There's been wide speculation and some discussion of late on how actresses are quickly displacing models as the choice cover, or the face of campaigns. Perhaps the cult of celebrity is to blame for the demise of the supermodel, perhaps digital imagery has negated the need for the perfect face/body.

But who actually comes up trumps in the style department?

How timely then is the theme of this year's Costume Institute Gala: "The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion". This could well be one lavish opportunity to remind everyone the importance of The Model. Zoolander style, let's take to the red carpet for the ultimate "walk-off":

Round 1 - Short & Sweet

Models Hilary Rhonda, Anja Rubik & Jessica Stam:
Similar to SJP's flower dress in the SATC movie

So on-trend

She's wearing my favourite Nicholas Kirkwoods! 'Nuff said

vs. Actresses Rachel Bilson, Molly Sims & Anne Hathaway:
Too cocktail dress for the MET

Eww...

Anne does her best impersonation of a fembot

Winner of Round 1: Models

Round 2: The Evening Gown

Models Oluchi Onweagba, Chanel Iman & Agyness Deyn:
Regal & beautiful

Hard to pull of a printed gown but Chanel Iman does it effortlessly

Valley of the Dolls goddess

vs. Actresses Marion Cotillard , Kate Bosworth, Ashley Olsen:
French perfection

She may be plugging her own label, but I adore this gown!

Veronica Lake would be proud. Plus I'm a lace whore...

Winner of Round 2: Tough but I'm going to say the Actresses
(must be all that award show practice)

Round 3: Black & White

Models Anna V & Angela Lindvall:
YES as ecstatically as Kara after an Adam Lambert on Rock night

Fabulous!

vs. Diana Kruger & Eva Longoria :
Like the dress but a tad boring in the styling department.
Josh Jackson though is arguably the only accessory needed...

She looks amazing but again a bit boring.

Winner of Round 3: Models!

Round 4: Guts & Gumption

Models Sasha Pivovarova, Karen Elson, Kate Moss:
People will say she looks like a bird but I kinda like this...

This is really excellent couple dressing!

I want a turban now! (Behold the power of Kate)

vs. Actresses Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, Rachel Weiz, Mary Kate Olsen:
(1) Was there no mirror available ?! (2) Leighton should go back to being brunette.

Wrong makeup, Wrong colour

Blake really needs to edit her choices. She's always trying too hard.

Extra points should be deducted considering how great her sis looked!

Winner: Can't you tell? MODELS!
Ladies, leave the avante garde to the professionals

Special Mention: A Mixed Bag for Musicians

Rihanna in menswear is YAY fierce.

Madonna with rabbit ears is definitely NAY.
(I considered listing her under Round 4's Actress category but that would be too much of a handicap...)

Victoria Beckham is a Maybe.
I love MJ (as you know) but on her, she looks like she's pooping fabric...

For Life and Liberty

Dang the design team behind Kate Moss' latest Topshop collection for coming up with a formula which I just can't refuse.

The collection launches online today and I've already shortlisted at least 5 items from the SS09 including some non-Liberty print styles, the gorgeous poppy print dress (above) and the rather impractical but so gorgeous ruffled maxi dress. This dress would make an excellent choice for anyone doing summery wedding though!

Love... Love... LOVE

These are some of my other faves:

Waistcoat with Liberty print (in panels on the front, and over the back)

Suede cut-out dress - yum

Meadow Liberty print top (the same print as the ruffled dress)

LOVING this feather detail jacket

I'm a complete Liberty print whore at the moment - which has got me coveting these two styles of TRAINERS *gasp* (now if you've ever scoped out my shoe closet, you'll notice a startling "trainers : other shoes ratio" of 1 : 101 or something like that):

(1) Nike's high-top Dunk trainers - USD 100

(2) H&M's Liberty print plimsolls - allegedly GBP 8!

Am feeling all summery and youthful already...
