Not Just For The Boys: Mr Porter Sale Preview

Nothing like warming your credit card like a caramel waffle over a skinny latte.  Mr Porter, Net-A-Porter's male cousin, clearly operates the way men shop: None of these teaser discounts, followed by further reductions... they go straight for the good stuff.  Founding members enjoy a sale preview of 50% off all items (excluding 'wardrobe staples' and 'new arrivals') until 10PM (GMT) tomorrow, 15 June!
What's rather brilliant about the sale is the fact that Mr Porter's merchandise aesthetic is as classic as Net-A-Porter is trendy.  You'll find nothing particularly heinous - instead, Mulberry billfold wallets in classic Chocolate and Black, slate grey Marc by Marc Jacobs messenger or this blue accented Paul Smith belt are available for The Guy (usual £133.33 to Singapore), and taupe Marni iPad case or smartphone sleeve for you... Just use this link!

Other unisex options:
Aubin & Wills merino wool breton scarf (usual £45.83)

Balenciaga Studded Laptop Case (usual £334)

Oh, You've Got Green Eyes: Marc by Marc Jacobs

I'm officially starting to unravel now - especially in the face of the flurry of mid-season sale emails descending on my inbox.  Why is it STILL Lent??

It's down to the wire for me, but for anyone who's got a sister/cousin/imaginary friend who deserves a chic baby bag, I spied this Marc by Marc Jacobs on someone over the weekend and it definitely had the correct balance of style/utility.  Available at Shopbop in a rainbow of colours for US$228 (after US$50-off).

Further Reductions, Further Down the Rabbit Hole

One of the only things worth looking forward to as New Year's Eve rolls past and everyone tries to get back into that "working" mindset is the prospect of bargains at the further reductions.  Personally, none so eagerly anticipated (at least, on my part) than Net-A-Porter's.

What I adore (read: fear) about their further reductions is that there gorgeous classics abound;  I could build an entirely new wardrobe from the offerings!  If you aren't completely cleaned out by Christmas and are in the mood to pick up something to east the pain of the new year, these are my favourites:

Slouchy charcoal grey suede and SO-Serena van der Woodsen - these Elizabeth & James boots are fantastic for city living (well not in Singapore, but perhaps in a Melbourne winter?).  These also share a brilliant hidden heel design feature with my new favourite and revered label for flats: Lanvin.  I absolutely could not imagine going back to Repetto & normal ballerinas after wearing my Lanvins! So much so I've scooped up the last chocolate, patent leather 36.5s at the further reductions! *sorry ladies*

I had a difficult moment deciding between these olive courts from Marc Jacobs and the Lanvin ballerinas (now £163.83).  Marc's mainline shoes are so much better constructed than the MBMJ ones; I could walk a marathon in my peeptoe flats, which themselves are a bargain still yet to be beat.  Still, the neutral tone is a luscious alternative to the usual brown/black work pumps.  I'd say they're a softer alternative to navy.

Equally tempting - but far more galpal M than I - were these two Hervé Léger skirts - both at a 70% discount AND in eternally chic black and monochrome black/white!  Oh wait there's more... Check out Maje bargains going at 60-70% off: black silk-chiffon dress (now £40); cotton blend blouse (now £32, but only available in a Medium or Large) and a silk with black lace blouse (now £56).

Keep Calm & Carry on Shopping!

Measuring Up Marc

I'm toeing the line on sadistic indulgences today: Is it still penance if you subject your expanding waistline to an enticingly joyful leather-coated Marc by Marc Jacobs tape measure?  Hmm... I have a waist.  It's been bad.  It needs to be disciplined.  Cue: Totally Turnlock "torture"!

There Are No Words: Marc Jacobs

The iconic Spring/Summer 2009 collection from Marc Jacobs (function: noun, pronunciation: \ˈgäd also ˈgȯd\has been curated and put on heavy discount at The Outnet.  This is impossibly bad timing since I've recently resolved to save for a downpayment for an apartment.  Such are the dilemmas of life:  I could be settled, old and frumpy or homeless, exuberant and indestructibly fabulous in this right-off-the-runway look!   For budgetary reasons, I might content myself with the probably more versatile sash belt from the same collection.  Now excuse me while I pace around my current abode in indecision. *fret*

Suck On This

Juicy Marc by Marc Jacobs cocktail rings going for US$12 a pop? What timely pricing!

These remind me of Topps' Ring Pops back in the 80s. I used to love them and their handy cousins, the Push Pops! Available in clear, red, black, blue and green OR (as I like to think of them) Sprite, cherry, licorice, blueberry and lime.

So Much For A Bargain

I wonder who is the person selling, through Shoes & Your Mum, items from local brand Martina Pink and Singaporean teen design student Laila...

The seller has to opted to price a black Laila skirt - which retails at SGD45 on the student/designer's website - at USD 45!  A 50% markup on the original price for a hand me down?

Maybe it's just me being sour grapes about Lulu not replying to a request to list my Marc shoes ;)  I shall not let the odd puzzling listing detract from genuine bargains like the Marc Jacobs cocktail dress (above) going for USD 150.  *yum*

Out With The Old : Shop My Wardrobe?

All my shoes are like precious little babies, but my closet is exploding! I have officially and COMPLETELY run out of space. Yes, even the space under the bed is packed full of shoe boxes...

After much deliberation, I'm letting these two lovelies back out into the world. They've been neglected for far too long...

More stuff to come when I've managed to get my Paypal account verified with ebay...

Club 21 Sale : I've Been A Bad Bad Girl

Cousin C forwarded me a Club 21 mailer mid-last week and being the shopping muppet that I am, I couldn't resist popping in on Saturday just to oogle. Surely even at 80% most items would be way out of my budget?

*wrong*

There was a healthy selection of Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs and Alaia shoes and Marni accessories going for under S$200 a pop!

If you were after a McQueen or Carolina Herrara dress for your wedding there were some real lovelies going for around S$1,000, which is cheaper than renting a nameless meringue from the corner bridal shop.

What I enjoyed about this sample sale was how dignified everything was. The sale was held in a store space itself not a hotel ballroom with a velvet-roped queue system, staff were decked out in their mismatched-chic best and still checked sizes with a smile. I even overheard some tourists having a tete-a-tete with a staff member about the latest runway shows. It was more or less a very well priced and stocked Club 21 store. No frenzied rummaging needed at all!

ALL shopping restraint failed me when I spied this pair of Marc Jacobs black flats (last pair in size 36.5). I'm usually a 37 with Marc but I guess these were a little stretched out from being the display pair. The pricing was S$899 x 80% off so that was a just-about NineWest S$179.80!

Mainline Marc for under S$180?! SQUEAL

That said, my Loeffler Randall black flats which were sample saled some 2-3 years back have started to show their age.

Well, at least that's how I'm attempting to justify the purchase... *grin*

More Marc

I love the internet - it means an hour or so after MJ's Marc by Marc Jacobs show, sneak pics are available online (thank you NYLON!).

Lots of knit, scarves, boots, seafoam green and orangey-reds (or is it just orange? the lighting is confusing me) and rainbow tights/sleeves/socks... yes, MJ continues his 80s fascination! This time in the direction of my old fave Rainbow Brite :)

Marc Your Diaries : It's 1985!

OK I give up and accept the 80s trend - especially now that Marc Jacobs has rolled out a FW09 collection that continues his Stephen Sprouse inspiration. Gear up for more Crayola neon brights, big shoulders and flock-of-seagulls-BIG hair!

I still love his SS09 Americana collection which mish-mashed trends of obi belts, metallics, straw hats and plaid. This Fw09 turn is cheeky rebellion against our sombre economic realities.

He may have scaled down the list of attendees to his show, but certainly made up for that with a blinding use of colours - bold purple and electric blue, green and bright pink, with pops of lemon yellow for extra retro kitsch.

What I LOVE about this show is every single model styled with different hair & makeup! *applause*
