Runway vs. Reality: Clogs

The typical male response:
Me: What do you think of this, this or this?
Him: Yuck, they're so ugly!
Me: But look how cute Alexa Chung looks in clogs!!
Him: That's Alexa Chung... Are YOU Alexa Chung?

Tory Burch v Shoptoomuch

I'm sure Tory Burch was dressed in her eponymous label whilst in Seoul for the launch of her boutique, but her breton cardigan practically twins my Muji. Of course mine was under S$50...

Surveying The Damage: Very Happy Un-Birthday Months

I have my sales strategies, I have my loves and I have a home to save for.

I've resolved to compile (and stick to) a list of investment buys that won't age with trends, whims and changes in style. While "the List" has made me more focussed in my purchases, it's also whittled away my resistance when faced with pieces which fit the bill perfectly. Not to mention when they're made of buttery napa, my resolve dissipates even more rapidly...

Thank goodness for fairly deep discounts (40% at Miu Miu & 75% at Ferragamo)! Now excuse me whilst I put my credit card in hibernation until November.

Anglomania on SYTYCD

Don't you love a Brit supporting British design? I adore the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania highland rebel dress that Cat Deeley wore the night of the first elimination on Season 7's So You Think You Can Dance. This would look hideous on my 5' 1" frame (and admittedly it doesn't look amazing on the NAP model) but it's very fetching on the statuesque host.
Full length shot at about 1.:20 here, otherwise available online at Net-A-Porter.

Le Big Sale

I can think of no better way to celebrate purchasing power parity than hitting the sales in Europe right now. From Tuesday June 15th, 7PM (french time), Colette offers 50% off on SS2010 styles at colette.fr... Oh and did I mention that they deliver worldwide? :)

Weekend Summer Chic: Bensimon, Bags & Brunch

Sometimes the humidity is unbearable, other times the rain pelts down punishingly. Screwball weather notwithstanding, it's Sundays like yesterday that make me thankful for living in the tropics. I want it to be the weekend forever! Maybe if I could wear floral sundresses and Bensimon shoes everyday then the grind would be ever so much more tolerable?

In the spirit of curing Monday blues, cue: completely random and unabashedly gratuitous shot of brunchmates - my beloved Ps1 with cousin C's rare indulgence of a City, which for all my personal reservations about the style at the moment, was truly rather stunning... possibly due to the large covered hardware.

Love is Simple.

More Jil Sander love - now from the Navy line. Can't wait! At prices from US$100, my heart now belong to that divine two-tone trench, though practicality will certainly win out and drive me into the arms of that handkerchief dress.

Chloe Paraty vs. Balenciaga City

So rich a red, so much less prolific right now than the Balenciaga City, so low is the Euro... could the universe be instigating me trade-in my poupre City for the burgundy Paraty from Chloe's Fall Winter 2010 collection (now available for pre-order at Luisaviaroma)?

Don't get me wrong - I
love my City, but is it cheating or buyer's regret when my heart sinks a nano-fraction every time a trashy tween or heartland "auntie" strolls past with their Balenciaga? The City is evidently becoming the new LV Speedy!

Sigh... I would trade-in (and trade-up) if I could, but I should save my any shopping for the next 2 quarters for London - a year's end trip which certainly take more than a handful of posts to properly capture.

Just Me, Just You, Just Lovely

Net-A-Porter's email blast today has got me cooing over all things old, new, borrowed and blue. Well, this isn't exactly a shopping post, well not yet anyways, so take it that I'm posting these for posterity!

The Two Alexas

Witness the extremities that follow IT-girl status! First, the heinous HEINOUS Mulberry Alexa knockoffs at Far East Plaza (yes, they were so gross an injustice, it had to said twice). Then, this random streetsnap of Alexa Chung looking her divine, casual-cool best in my favourite Kate Moss x Topshop piece.

Guess I'll be pulling my pansy dress out of hiatus this weekend whilst pondering a swearing off the actual Alexa - well, at least until the sweatshops move onto the next IT-bag...

To Clutch or Not To Clutch

So far my efforts to find a non-black clutch during the Great Singapore Sale have proved abysmal. Maybe it's a by-product of shopping out of the party season, or maybe it's my insistence on finding one that isn't made of satin.

Since my in-store efforts have failed, I've turned my eye to Net-A-Porter's end of season sale. Two options have come up already! Am perennially attracted to the potential of a convertible clutch, but it doesn't appear to have more than 1cm worth of depth capacity. Would it even be enough for my mobile phone? At least both options from Michael Kors and Anya Hindmarch show better finishing than that of a flat clutch-wallet from a well-regarded brand bearing a trendy pussycat print.
