Summer Crush: Chloe Sevigny

Nobody quite does cool, effortless, almost-sloppy, summer chic like Chloe Sevigny. And she skateboards! For more of the brilliant Sevigny, check out her board skills in equally summery Coconut Records' Any Fun video. T.G.I.F. everyone!

Revisiting A Classic : Ferragamo Vara Pumps

I've probably been unfairly critical of classic Ferragamo pumps - too low.. too boring... too matronly?

It's taken Alexa Chung to pique my interest in this old faithful. Could the Vara replace the trusty ballerina as choice flat(ish) footwear? (I'll get to Oxfords in another post)

It might well be that she's at least a foot taller and 2 dress sizes skinnier, but I was always under the impression the Vara bow pumps made petites look stumpy and schoolmarmish. If Alexa is on board, I might give them a try the next time I'm in town. That and the twin prospect of having a reason to raid my mother's vintage shoe collection ;) Stay tuned.

Things I Wish I Had

Scarily, I think I have about as many shoes and clutter as the TeenVogue closet. Excuse me while I make space for things I don't need but want...

Like these Alexander McQueen heels at Outnet
Or these Brian Atwood platforms (also on Outnet)
And maybe one fine day, this PS1 (back in stock at NAP)

Flashback: David Bowie & Kate Moss blow up

Rewatched Labryrinth. Absolutely counting down to Where The Wild Things Are, which I'm sure will be equally magical and ireverrent. Feeling all nostalgic and digging Bowie again, especially in this Q's Michelangelo Antonioni inspired editorial from Oct03 featuring who else but Ms Moss:

Opposites Attract

Scene: En route to Morton's Bar at The Oriental Hotel, Singapore, a couple passes through heavy security. They enter the elevator.
Boy: 'Can you believe Liverpool is actually staying here - What luck!!'
Girl: 'Okay... cool?' [unfazed]
Boy: 'Quick!! What do you have that (the team) can sign?'
Girl: 'I have a copy of Vogue.'
Boy: '...'
A True story. T.G.I.F. everyone!

First Impressions: Ion Orchard (Part 2)

Something sequined this way comes: TOPSHOP finally returns!!

While not as large as the old Wisma Atria store, there's a good range of stock including pieces otherwise already sold out in London (that is, a whole LOAD of sequined tops, jackets and blazers *heart*). I might spend the whole weekend in sequins, which I'm explicably addicted to right now.

If The Shopping Powers That Be are listening, please bring some of those delicious OTKs to our sunny shores ;)

Farewell: House of Japan

R.I.P:  House of Japan.
Cause of death: Unknown
Time of Death:  Sometime in early May 2009

It happened so quietly.  I only found out last week.  One of the most authentic secondhand store experiences in a country which, at most times, feels like just one huge mall.  Polyfabulous retro shirts, 80s tees and racks of old Japanese kimonos were among the treasures that could be unearthed in this Haji Lane treasure.  I'll miss you.

First Impressions: Ion Orchard (Part 1)

Had the opportunity to do a whirlwind run around Ion Orchard this afternoon.  I didn't have a lot of time so I just scouted the locations of various shops noting which of my targeted flagships were open (LV, Dsquared2, Miu Miu, Sephora, Topshop) and which weren't (PradaDVF, Marc Jacobs - yes, finally the main collection has a store!!, alldressedup).

More on the rest later but for now I'll mention the pigeon-hole L-shaped Guiseppe Zanotti "flagship" where I spied, for the first time this season in Singapore, LEATHER OTKs!!

My dream Rodartes they are not, but I'm trying to make do.  So here's mobile snaps of the Zanotti nappa thigh-high platform boots.  I'd have hitched my tee dress up to better capture the boots but I didn't want to flash the sales staff...
If you have S$2,300 on hand (which I do not), the store carries 1 pair per size.  Admittedly though, the price is pretty staggering for shoes you can't quite use in Singapore - I was actually beginning to ever-so-slightly perspire in them after just 5 minutes in air-conditioning.  I should also mention that the store has slightly annoyingly omitted all half-sizes, which really are SO crucial for such boots.
If you're game for the Zanotti boots, Luisaviaroma has the suede version at Euro 623.33, which is at least S$700 in savings.  Alternatively, strut off with the Prada OTKs (above), or if you're on my budget, the Topshop OTKs - that is, if they're even still in stock...

OK Computer

I'm kinda digging the distressed denim Alexander Wang feel to this laptop sleeve, available at Pixiemarket for a modest US$62

Modelisers in Vogue

This is a bit old - May 09 US Vogue - but I just couldn't help noticing how incredibly attractive all the Models (and their other halves) are!  There are some dam fine genes in this editorial.
